# What is News trading rule?

> Also called: High-impact news rule, Economic release rule, News restriction

**In short.** A news trading rule restricts or forbids holding or opening positions around scheduled high-impact releases (CPI, FOMC, NFP, usually a window of 2 to 5 minutes each side). Breaking it is treated as a rule breach on some firms, as a cancelled profit on others; a few firms have no rule and only ask for the daily loss to be respected.

**On today's board.** 5 of the 14 firms on the board restrict trading around news on their reference account; 1 do not state a rule. Data checked October 15, 2026.

The rule exists because releases print several points of range in a second, which simulated fills do not reproduce. Firms that allow news trading often warn that fills around releases are at the firm's discretion.

The practical answer is a calendar and a flat position a few minutes before each listed release. The firm page shows the rule of the reference account (allowed, restricted, forbidden) from the database.

Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor. fillprint is an independent publication, not a broker or a prop firm.

Some links are affiliate links: if you sign up through them, the firm or DeepCharts pays us a commission, at no extra cost to you, and often with a discount for you. Affiliate links are marked and carry rel="sponsored". Being an affiliate never moves a firm up the board. Firms without a program stay listed, marked “no affiliation”.
