Liquidity heatmap

Also called: Order book heatmap, Bookmap-style heatmap, Depth heatmap, DeepDom

In short. A liquidity heatmap paints the history of the order book on the chart: at each price and each moment, the resting size is drawn as a colour, from dark (little) to bright (a wall). It shows where large limit orders sat, when they were pulled, when they were refilled, and how price reacted, which a live DOM cannot show once the moment has passed.

Patterns to learn first: a bright wall that holds (support or resistance, and a stop level), a wall that is pulled as price approaches (a trap, price usually goes through), a wall that refills after being hit (an iceberg, absorption). With the footprint, the heatmap tells you whether the aggression met a wall or empty air.

The heatmap needs a feed that provides full depth; the data behind it differs between platforms and prop firms. The article 'Reading the liquidity heatmap' on this site covers the three patterns with DeepDomOFF screenshots.
